My name is Christoph Rauh,
I am a photographer, founder and owner of Iritxu Photos,
I was born in 1979 in Nuremberg in central Franconia and, after numerous longer and shorter stops in between, I have now been living in the German capital Berlin for over a decade.
The name Iritxu comes from Basque mythology, more precisely it is a fire-breathing bird that lives in the woods. Personally, I find it more likeable not to want to bludgeon my photography with a clear name, the necessary seriousness comes with the way you deal with your work.
Having to describe your own style is a very unpleasant task if you don't want to be pigeonholed. The respective subject is by no means the same to me, but the respective fixed focal length is far more important. In this way, I usually end up using 35mm on a full-frame sensor to hunt for motifs and ideally only use the light available on location.
As I prefer to publish in monochrome, the genre of art inevitably follows me, and in most cases I would probably classify my photographic work as photo reportage. Whereby it is important to me that the photographer does not allow himself to be instrumentalized and observes as unnoticed as possible in the hope of being able to capture the respective moment unadulterated.
If, in addition to my portfolio on this homepage, consisting of my three galleries Monochrome Berlin, The other in the Alps and Urban Exploration you would like to see more of my photos and stay informed about news, I can recommend my photo blog on Flickr, as well as my social media presence on Bluesky or alternatively on Mastodon.
